dugdale bros. & co. supports students and apprentices at all stages of their studies.

the 1896 platform furthers our commitment to the future of fashion and tailoring by providing a unique series of educational assets, donations, discounts and opportunities.

we believe that you are the future of our industry.

“My philosophy has always been that those of us at the helm of this great company are merely custodians of something that existed long before us and which should continue long after. Our role is not simply to derive personal benefit from it, but to nurture and strengthen Dugdale Bros. & Co. for the generations that follow. It is a responsibility we do not take lightly.

Central to that responsibility is the passing on of knowledge, skills and expertise. I have always taken great pride in our relationships with universities and in the opportunities we've had to support aspiring designers, tailors and textile professionals. Whether through cloth donations, educational talks, practical advice or simply opening our doors to those seeking guidance, we have long considered education an important part of our work. In recent years, we have become increasingly determined to place it at the forefront of what we do.

We wanted to give this philosophy a practical expression, bringing together our existing educational work under one dedicated initiative while creating new opportunities to engage with students, graduates, apprentices and anyone with a desire to learn more about our industry.'“

Owner and Chairman

A lifelong cloth enthusiast, he has spent much of his career travelling the world meeting tailors, designers, merchants and makers, championing British cloth and the people behind it.

the dugdale story

For over a century, Dugdale Bros & Co. has woven passion, pride, and integrity into everything we do.

Since 1896, we’ve supported and championed generations of skilled local craftsmen and women. Our collections are designed in-house and manufactured within just ten miles of our historic headquarters on Northumberland Street - a proud tribute to our roots in Huddersfield’s rich textile heritage.

As the last remaining independently owned cloth merchant at the centre of Huddersfield we continue to embrace many of the same tried and tested techniques that have stood the test of time. Yet, as a forward-thinking company, we are equally committed to innovation - combining time-honoured skills with modern technologies to create cloth that is as luxurious as it is enduring.

For us, there’s only one place to make proper cloth, the proper way -  Huddersfield.

current collaborations

We are currently engaged with multiple institutions in order to deliver a first class cloth education to those studying fashion and design.

Our university roadtrip in partnership with the Graduate Fashion Foundation will see us visit almost 40 institutions across the next three months.

a study in sustainability

We are an ethically and environmentally conscious company and our cloth is never over designed or overpriced. Our name stands for British luxury, quality and authenticity and we still proudly prosper in the place where it all began.

As we remain defiantly independent, it’s our duty to preserve and promote the craft of our industry through tireless innovation and forward thinking that will help secure a future for our suppliers and clients alike. Our processes are a carefully measured blend of the traditional and modern with a stringent drive for quality placed firmly at the heart of everything we do.

We’re dedicated to making cloth the right way, or not at all.

for educators and institutions

We are keen to partner with educators and institutions who would like to provide their students with a more thorough understanding of the processes of cloth making.
